The Denver Nuggets' leading scorer Danilo Gallinari is expected to miss about four weeks with a sprained left ankle, the NBA team said Tuesday.
The Italian playmaker, who inked a four-year contract with the Nuggets in January after he was traded from New York in the deal that sent Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, turned the ankle as he drove to the basket in the third quarter of Denver's 99-90 loss to Houston.
X-rays after the injury also revealed a chip fracture in his foot that probably occurred before his pro career began, according to an article posted on the team's website.
Gallinari, who is averaging 17 points and 5.8 rebounds in 25 games, will wear a walking boot for three to five days and have treatment for the ankle sprain. He said he would try to return within four weeks.
"If it can be faster, it's better, but with these kind of things, you want to take your time and have it heal in the right way," Gallinari said.
