Sydney Roosters NRL captain Braith Anasta says he'll consider a future in professional golf and he'll get a close-up look when he contests the NSW PGA Championship in November.

At the start of the year Anasta reduced his handicap to scratch and his game has been publicly endorsed by former professional Brett Ogle.

While the Test and NSW representative endured a tough year on the field for the Roosters, Anasta has a new sporting focus for the off-season.

He's been confirmed in the field for the championship which gets under way at Wollongong Golf Club from November 3-6.

It's the 29-year-old's first foray into competitive golf where he will compete as an amateur against a field of professionals like Craig Parry, and attempt to put his name on the trophy alongside past winners like Kel Nagle, Peter Senior and Wayne Grady.

"I am really looking forward to this season of golf, even more so now that I will be competing in the NSW PGA championship," Anasta said.

"The NSW PGA is a very prestigious tournament and so I am training hard at Wollongong Golf Club to ensure come November, I am competitive against the professionals.

"I would be honoured to win the tournament and add my name to the trophy but for the moment I am just concentrating on getting my game in the best shape possible."

The NSW PGA immediately precedes the Australian Open and Presidents Cup, with the field vying for their share of the $120,000 prize purse plus exemptions into some of the biggest tournaments on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

"We are very pleased to welcome Braith into the NSW PGA championship as an amateur where I am sure both Braith and golf fans alike will enjoy the golfing action over the four days," said Simon Butterly, general manager of the PGA Tour of Australasia.
