Australian golfer Wade Ormsby will play in the Scottish Open after earning a late call-up on the morning of the opening day's play at Castle Stuart near Inverness.

The late withdrawals of Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez and Japan's Hiroyuki Fujita paved the way for Ormsby to play in the tournament.

Ormsby came in for Gonzalez while former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart, who is at the event doing media work, turned down a late chance to play.

Coltart has been suffering from a virus since a trip to Kenya earlier this year and did not feel well enough to tee off.

Ormsby's chance came when Gonzalez pulled out because of family reasons, but there were no other official reserves on site when Fujita decided not to play because of illness.

There are now eight Australian competitors at the Scottish Open, including Richard Green and Bryden Macpherson, who last month became the first Australian winner of the British amateur title since 1954.
