Australian Ryan Haller fired a seven-under-par 65 to take a one-shot lead following the first round of the Thailand Open on Thursday.
The 37-year-old carded seven birdies in a bogey-free round at Suwan Golf and Country Club to finish the day one shot ahead of Chinese youngster Hu Mu.
"I played incredibly well today. My iron play was perfect. I hit my approach shots to about eight feet 12 times," said Haller.
"I had a bad start to the year which has been disappointing because I was playing well last season.
"The problem is I need to be playing a lot of golf to get some form going and this is now my third week in a row playing, so it's starting to come together.
"I had some good practice rounds and that gave me high hopes for the week."
Hu, meanwhile, sank eight birdies but a double-bogey six at the 14th cost him the outright lead.
"It is a pretty good start. The last six holes were difficult as it started to rain pretty heavy but I held it together," said the 21-year-old.
"I am getting used to playing tournament golf. That was my lowest round on OneAsia so I am very satisfied.
Six players were tied for third on five under with another seven one shot further adrift on four under par.
