Rookie golfer Caroline Hedwall overturned a seven-shot deficit to claim victory at the Ladies Open in Austria on Sunday, her third win of the year.
The 22-year-old Swede, who has made stunning progress on the Ladies European Tour this season, teed off trailing Finland's Kaisa Ruuttila and produced a stunning eight-under 64.
The tournament was always going to be Ruuttila`s to lose and a stumbling opening nine gave Hedwall a chance.
Birdies on two, four and eight gave her momentum and, when she birdied the 11th and eagled the 12th with a 15-footer, she was tied for the lead with Italian Giulia Sergas and Frenchwoman Caroline Afonso, with Ruuttila now out of the running.
Hedwall missed the green at the 16th but she landed another 15-foot putt to stay ahead and closed out the tournament at 12-under, eventually winning by four shots from Afonso.
Sergas, Ruuttila, England's Melissa Reid and Swede Linda Wessberg tied for third another shot back.
Best of the Australians was Karen Lunn (70), seven shots off the pace and one better than Stacey Keating (67) and Nikki Garrett (70)
Rebecca Flood, one of eight first-round co-leaders, blew out with a 76 to finish nine off the pace.
"It's been an unbelievable year," said Hedwall, who is the first rookie to win three Tour events since Trish Johnson in 1987.
"I just try to enjoy myself and have a good time: that's what I do. I try to have fun and it works.
"I made a lot of bad mistakes my first day and I wasn't happy at all. They were mistakes that I don't usually do. I still felt like my game was pretty good and it didn't feel like I shot one over even though my score showed that."
