While the title is still to be decided on the court at the world championships, Netball Australia is already a winner with a new funding grant announced.

Minister for Sport Mark Arbib is in Singapore for a number of meetings and to support Australia's defence of their world netball crown.

He announced on Saturday that 15 national sporting organisations would share in $1.45 million in new funding to boost the media coverage of women's sport.

Netball Australia received the largest portion, with $260,000, followed by Cricket Australia with $200,000.

NA plan to use the funding to develop a comprehensive digital media strategy and assist with broadcasting the ANZ trans-Tasman championships.

Arbib said the grants were a new initiative to increase the exposure of women's sport in the Australian media.

"We're supporting our organisations to make sure they have strategies, officers and programs in place to attract more support in the media," he said.

"We need to make sure women's sport is getting a higher profile in television, print and radio."

He said responsibility needed to be shared by the organisations as well as the media for the amount of coverage.

"We urge the media to play a more active role but at the same time government has a role to assist and sport also has a role to better package and market their sports."
