The French Rugby Federation (FFR) wants the postponed France versus Ireland Six Nations game to be rescheduled for next season.

"France wants the match to be played next season due to the scheduling problems presented by the Top 14 (French domestic league)," said FFR chief Pierre Camou.

Saturday night's game at the Stade de France fell victim to the frigid conditions just minutes before referee Dave Pearson was due to whistle for it to start, leaving 80,000 fans to vent their frustrations.

The Six Nations organising committee were initially looking at playing the match in one of the two upcoming "free" weekends during the course of this year's tournament, which were next weekend or the weekend of March 3-4.

But following a Six Nations Council meeting on Monday, the committee confirmed that the match would "not take place this weekend (February 17/18/19)".

The committee was to meet again on Tuesday with Camou saying he doubted they would agree to the FFR request to hold over the game till next season.

In that case, France would opt for the match to be replayed on Sunday, March 4 at 4:15pm in order to lessen the burden on clubs.

The FFR also announced that ticket-holders for the postponed game would be reimbursed if they so wished if it was played that weekend, but not if was rescheduled for next season.

"Our supporters who came all the from the provinces and those who came from Ireland have already spent a lot of money and we are not going to add to that the price of their ticket," FFR treasurer Rene Hourquet said.
