Argentina reached the Davis Cup quarter-finals as David Nalbandian and Eduardo Schwank sealed a five-sets doubles victory on Saturday to put their team 3-0 up against Germany.

The duo came back from two sets down and put in a mammoth effort against Germany's Tommy Haas and Philipp Petzschner.

Their victory came after three and a half hours as they won 3-6, 4-6, 6-4 6-3, 6-4.

The result was a particularly bitter pill for Haas, who was back playing Davis Cup for the first time since 2007.

Argentina began the day with a 2-0 lead at the Stechert Arena in Bamberg after Juan Monaco had posted a straight sets victory over Petzschner and Nalbandian came from a set down to beat Florian Mayer on Friday.

The South Americans will play either Japan or Croatia in the quarterfinals as they bid to reach the Davis Cup final for the second year in a row.
