Top seed and world number three Roger Federer eased into the Rotterdam Open second round on Wednesday with a 6-4, 6-4 win over France's Nicolas Mahut.
The Swiss star, who is playing the tournament for the first time since winning the title in 2005, next tackles Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.
