South Korean swimming star Park Tae-Hwan said Monday he hopes to break a world record at next year's London Olympics and win yet another gold medal.

The 2008 Olympic champion in the 400m freestyle and two-time world champion for that distance said he was also striving to top the 200m next year.

"I've done well at world championships and at the Asian Games, but my records show that I've still got a lot of work to do," Yonhap news agency quoted Park as saying.

He will leave for Australia on Thursday for training with his coach Michael Bohl.

The 22-year-old won world titles in 2007 and 2011 and collected six gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 Asian Games.

After winning the 400m title at this year's championships in Shanghai, Park reacted with disappointment for failing to set a new record.

"My ultimate goal is to set a world record, and I am pretty driven to pull that off," he said.

His chief competitors in the 400m are Paul Biedermann of Germany and Sun Yang of China, who finished second and third in Shanghai.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't paying attention to them," Park said. "But they give me extra motivation and fire. That is a plus for me."

In the 200m, Park won a silver medal behind Michael Phelps in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing but failed to gain the podium at this year's world championships.

Park said he had recently focused on practicing more for the 200m.

He plans to enter a meet in Sydney in February and a South Korean event in April, with a possible European date in June.
