Perth will host a new international swimming meet that will see Australia take on the might of China and South Africa annually from 2013.

The Aquatic Super Series will feature a top-class program of pool events complemented by two international water polo matches as well as open-water races.

Swimming Australia chief executive Kevin Neil said it was a huge boost for the sport and would provide vital practice for the three countries in the lead up to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

"This is a fantastic announcement for our sport and a great opportunity for the Australian swim team to compete against the best in the world, right here in Western Australia," said Neil.

"To be able to compete against the likes of China and South Africa on a regular basis... will provide vital international experience for our athletes and coaches in the lead up to Rio 2016."
