Bob Bowman, the coach of 14-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps, has been added to the US Olympic coaching staff for the 2012 London Olympics.

Bowman will be an assistant under US Olympic men's swim coach Gregg Troy.

It will be the third Olympic stint for Bowman, an assistant in 2004 at Athens when Phelps won six gold medals and in Beijing in 2008 when Phelps won a record eight gold medals.

Dave Salo was also named as an assistant coach for US Olympic women's swim coach Teri McKeever.

Four other members of the US Olympic staff will be named after the US Olympic swim trials next June and July in Omaha, Nebraska.

Phelps captured four gold medals, with seven podium finishes overall, at the World Championships in July in China. He will retire after the London Olympics.
