It’s not uncommon to see Jason Akermanis vent his bitterness against the Western Bulldogs through the media, but he took it too far yesterday afternoon.

Often choosing radio as his platform of exposure, Akermanis’ appearance on Mike Sheahan’s webcast show, ‘Live Mike,’ was a damning condemnation of the Bulldogs – their youngsters in particular.

The club has undoubtedly told its players to ignore all Akermanis’ comments made in the media, but a scathing attack with no remorse is bound to make its way down to Witten Oval.

In reference to the Western Bulldogs playing group, Ackermanis commented:

“I said to you all along, I have not just been hitting them because they’ve just fell over. I punched them when they were up and I kneed them on the way down because they’ve got serious problems there.”

“The two blokes with the worst endurance are in the forward line. They got rid of (Jarred) Grant this week. Liam Jones is in that category. They are the worst two runners.

“Giansiracusa has never played good on a big game. He’s not AFL standard.”

When asked about the coaching situation, Akermanis was quick to comment,

“(Leon Cameron) He’s got the job. (Patrick) Veszpremi. He will go to Greater Western Sydney. (Sam) Reid can play. Hasn’t been given a whole lot since becoming a diabetic. I think they’re a bit worried about his health.

“Shaun Higgins, I hope you are listening and I hope you prove me wrong. You are fragile and you are not good enough for AFL Football.”

You’re well paid. You were in the leadership group too young. You didn’t earn it. You are too fragile.”

Regardless of the club’s processes for dealing with Akermanis’ comments, the psyches of young players could be harmed when they learn his comments have been broadcast publicly.

To question a young player’s personal health is irresponsible and a low blow, even by Akermanis’ standards.

At a time when the playing group are in need of confidence, Jason Akermanis has once again found a way to kick them while down.
