This is my post-draft assessment following the selections made by GWS. The Giants will have a handy squad of youngsters and speedsters.
The forward line is tasty – Folau plays close to the goal square, while Patton leads into space. O’hAilpin is the big-bodied CHF, while Hampton and Hoskin-Elliott have speed to burn on the half-forward flanks.
Player-coach Power keeps an eye on the kids from the forward pocket, probably having a few puffs off a cigarette bummed off a fan in good country footy tradition.
Mohr and Phil Davis provide the bulk in the backline, with Chad Cornes playing enforcer while Reid and Buntine look after small forwards and Hombsch provides rebound.
The midfield. Ward, Scully, Shiel, Coniglio, Palmer, with McDonald as an option as stopper and Clifton for when things get too hot inside for the kids. Theres no spot for Tyson that I can see.
If Brogan is injured, then Giles starts, relieved by Setanta, and may God have mercy upon our souls.

Emg: Cameron, Tomlinson, Giles, Kennedy, Tyson etc.
I’ll close with a quote from Jeremy Cameron, the other giant Giant (six four, ninety kilos and 18) “My first game of senior footy was in the reserves. I was 14 years old and I got cleaned up big time but I also remember kicking three goals”.
Thats what I think will happen – they will be cleaned up big time, but they’ll kick some goals.
My feeling is, like Gold Coast, this team will be competitive against the lower bracket of the comp, and will win a couple of games. One is a pass mark, four is over-achieving.
