Gold Coast Suns captain and former Geelong star Gary Ablett has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash against his old club due to a hamstring injury.
Ablett had originally hurt his hamstring against Colllingwood, before further damaging it in the clash against St Kilda last week.
The Suns announced this morning the Brownlow Medallist would miss the trip to Geelong, while Ablett tweeted:
“Apologies to all the Cats fans! I was really looking forward to playing down at Skilled Stadium. It was a hamstring injury I hurt against Collingwood and it felt good leading into the St Kilda game but unfortunately I’ve done a bit more damage”.
Suns coach Guy McKenna said he would not risk his star player:
“There’s just been a bit of bleeding into his hamstring. Bit like our theory with the young kids, the old ones you’ve got to treat them much the same, if there’s any doubt, rule them out,” McKenna said.
“I’d prefer him to miss a week rather than a month.
The Suns now face a huge task, with the Cats fresh from destroying the Melbourne Demons by 186-points.
