I must admit, the prospect of Ross Lyon moving to Perth next year intrigues me. You have Perth, the two-team town, that lives and breathes its football. A community that has an insatiable appetite for news and scrutinises and immortalises football stars.

Supporters, with strong opinions and high expectations of their respective football clubs, coaches and players.

Then you have Lyon, once rather harshly declared as having ice in his veins, often criticised for his lack of media openness, and the man who famously created the ‘bubble’ at St Kilda.

The concept of keeping everything inside the inner sanctum private, and keeping everything outside of that, well outside.

It’s certainly going to be an interesting combination. Is Ross ready for the intense scrutiny?

Are Freo fans and the Perth media, ready for an assured and polished media performer, limited access, closed training sessions and a general veil of secrecy?

The press conference indicated he will be employing a similar philosophy during his tenure at Fremantle. I can’t help but feel that Ross will inevitably lock down, and employ his imaginary force field around Docker land.

It certainly functioned at a club in a city where it was the one team among many; the question is will it function where the focus is constant and unwavering?

Interesting times ahead.
